Music Performance & Production
This course provides learners with the skills and knowledge required to succeed in the professional music industry. The students will study music theory and its practical application to musical styles and genres and use their skills in music performance. Students explore the structure of the music industry in addition to gaining practical skills in recording and producing music in a modern production environment. Students also learn how to plan and organise events as part of the course.

This course provides knowledge and skills to progress to Music degrees or Music Technology degree programmes. NOTE: Instrumental or vocal lessons are not provided as part of the course
How The Course Is Taught
This award is achieved by working on practical projects using Notation Software in Music and Industry Standard Software, such as Reaper, Pro Tools, and a selection of third-party Plugins. Learners will be guided through the process of preparing to work with the required hardware and software.
Throughout the year students are assigned projects and must also prove their competence in several skills demonstrations in the various disciplines. Skills demonstrations in Music involve the application of the learned theory in keyboard skills and arrangement of songs as well as aural tests.
In Music Performance skills demonstrations assess the student's progress in a series of gigs. The skills demonstrations are integrated with Event Production and overlaps with Music Industry Studies.
In the technology areas skills demonstrations involve the use of microphones, interfaces, cables, mixers and monitors. At the end of the year there are theory exams in certain subjects.
