Higher Education Entry Criteria
Each Higher Education programme has its own distinctive entry requirements. This is set as a minimum UCAS points for entry. On some programmes, applicants must also hold subject specific qualifications to gain a place. Therefore, it is essential that you check entry requirements for each programme you are applying for. Please note, these are qualifications that applicants must have completed and certified to gain entry onto the respective programmes.

Applicants must hold a GCSE pass at Grade C/4 or above in both English Language and Mathematics. Level 2 Certificate in Essential Skills - Application of Number and Essential Skills Literacy may be regarded as an acceptable alternative to GCSE Maths and English.

We recognise that prior learning or experience may give some students credit towards a qualification to gain entry onto a programme or credit towards a programme of study. Please refer to our Accreditation of Prior Learning (APL) process.

Please also note: The College reserves the right to increase the entry requirements for all Higher Education provision based on demand and required academic standards, as specified by the Awarding Body/validating organisation.

Applicants applying to programmes validated by university partners (UU, QUB and OU) who hold international qualifications must provide certificates to determine equivalence before an offer can be made.

Irish Leaving Certificate: a minimum tariff of 64 UCAS points with four subjects at Higher Level, or 56 UCAS including one subject at H3 from Geography, Business Studies, Economics, and Technology. Must include English and Maths at min grade H6 or O4.

Careers / Further progression

Careers
Progression is by articulation to the second year (subject to final grade) of one of the following programmes at Ulster University: BSc Hons Real Estate or MSci/ BSc Hons Planning Regeneration and Development. This course is the first step to becoming chartered in one of the Professional bodies within the Built Environment such as the Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors (RICS) or the Royal Town Planning Institute (RTPI). Alternatively, you may wish to undertake further study for a degree in another construction-related discipline or go into employment in the property or construction industry. (Please consult university admissions for entry to courses outside the progression routes named above.)

Over and above the tuition fees, you may incur extra costs associated with your studies, which you will need to plan for. As part of your studies the college will arrange and facilitate site visits and study trips. Where possible the Department will seek to subsidise costs; however, there will be a contribution from the students of approximately £30 per year. You may also choose to purchase your own textbooks and course materials or prefer your own computer and software. Computer Aided Design and other software used on the course is available as free student copies from the software company website.

This full-time programme validated by Ulster University is designed for students who are interested in a career in the fields of town planning, property investment, development or housing management and who require a Foundation Degree to enhance employment prospects or progression to an undergraduate qualification in this area of study.

This course is also suitable for students who want a change in career.  Successful completion of the course will enable students to enhance their employment prospects and/or to progress to higher academic study.  A key feature of this course is a work-based learning placement within the student’s chosen sector.  In the past students have secured placements in Planning Departments of Local councils, Housing Associations, Private Planning Consultancies and Residential/Commercial Estate Agents. Note students must source and secure a suitable placement location/provider.

Assessment is by a combination of coursework, practical and written examination including a 400-hour work placement period in the second year of the course. Note students must source and secure a suitable placement location/provider.
