QQI Level 5 Certificate in Horticulture
This full-time course runs from September to May. Students taking this course learn by taking part in the daily routine on the holding, attending lectures given by college tutors and experienced food producers, and by working with established organic growers. The modules provided to complete this certificate include Organic Principles & Standards, Plant Science, Soil Science & Growing Media, Fruit & Vegetable Production, Plant Identification & Use, Plant Protection, Work Practice, Horticultural Mechanisation, Beekeeping, Applied Permaculture and Communications.

One-year full-time Quality and Qualifications Ireland (QQI) Level 5 Course where you choose your modules leading to a certificate in Horticulture
You’ll develop organic gardening skills, so you’ll be able to grow fruit, veg and herbs the healthy organic way

One Year full-time course. (Part time options available)
This course is one of only a few like it in Ireland and runs from mid-September to late May. It features lectures, demonstrations and group discussions, field trips and tours.
The course consists of modules, some of which are nationally written and common to other Education bodies under Quality and Qualifications Ireland (QQI). Many of the modules have been specially written by teachers within the Organic and Co-operative movement. Because it is modular based and nationally certified, students wishing to continue to study further can have their awards recognised at whatever level achieved.

Each of the modules available by Distance Learning covers the same syllabus as students attending the college for lectures. The only difference is that the course material will be delivered to you through the internet. To keep costs (and prices) to a minimum, we do not send out printed materials. We realise that the internet might not be for everyone as a way to learn, but it is the only cost-effective way we can offer these courses to you. We do make DVD’s of interesting films and audio recordings available during the course.
Instead of going to lectures you will log onto our website and work through the course material each week. You will be set coursework and practical exercises. In addition to using the internet to work through the material you will also be able to use the website to discuss things with other students and teachers. The distance learning website uses a state-of-art course management system which is very powerful and flexible. There are discussion forums, blogs and photo galleries that you can use.
