The Honours Degree programme - Adapted Physical Activity (APA) will equip students with specialist knowledge and experience in working with people with disabilities. They are equipped to work in a variety of settings including health and leisure centres, sports camps, health promotion, mainstream and special needs schools, community centres, clinical settings, residential and day care services. Students will have experience working in groups and on a one to one basis with adults and children with sensory, physical, intellectual, multiple and severe disabilities.

What are my career opportunities?
Graduates will have specialist knowledge in: communication and teaching methods; contraindications of various activities for specific disabilities; disability sports and adapting mainstream activities to suit individual needs; assessment methods; individualised programming and planning; inclusive practices in group settings; training other professionals to assist in physical activity settings; aquatic rehabilitation; working and liaising with professionals of the multidisciplinary care team in the on-going care, support and rehabilitation of people with disabilities; policies and legislation in relation to disability and sport/recreation and event planning and promotion.

The Institute welcomes applications from persons who will be 23 years of age and over on the 1st of January of the proposed year of entry and who wish to be admitted as a mature student. The Institute reserves a minimum of 5% of all places for mature applicants.

In March of each year, MTU welcomes applications for add-on degree and honours degree programmes, with a commencement date of the following September.

The application process is open for one month, from early March to the first week in April each year (this date changes slightly due to the Easter holidays, but it is always within the first week in April).
