Entry Criteria
Entry criteria / prerequisites Level 5 Certificate / Leaving Certificate (or equivalent) or relevant life experience detailed in a current Curriculum Vitae. Please provide details and attach a copy of either a current CV or Certificate. Learners must be a resident of Ireland / based in Ireland.

English
As this NFQ level 6 qualification is delivered through English it is necessary learners will have sufficient written English skills to complete this course. Forus Training recommends a minimum English language competency of IELTS 5.5 (or equivalent) for successful completion of this programme. If you are not sure what level of English competency you have, please contact hello@forustraining.ie and a Course Advisor will arrange for you to take an assessment.

IT Skills and Equipment Required
Basic working knowledge of computers and access to a computer with internet access is required to do the course. A PC with Windows 8 or later or a Mac with OSX 10.5 or later.

An internet connection with a speed of at least 10mbps.

What are my progression routes?
Upon successful completion of this module you will receive a QQI Level 6 minor award (6N1945) Childhood Social Legal and Health Studies certificate.

This Childhood Social Legal and Health Studies course leads to a level 6 minor award on the National Framework of Qualifications. On successful completion of this course students may use this level 6 credit (credit value - 15) towards a QQI Advanced Certificate/major award (code: 6M2007).

If you decide to engage in further training and pursue a QQI Level 6 major award, such as the 6M2007 Early Childhood Care and Education award, then this module will count as 15 credits out of the 120 required. This module is one of the 8 minor components which make up the major award. Completion of the major award will equip you with the knowledge, skill and competence to work as an autonomous early childhood care and education practitioner. The Level 6 major award in Early Childhood Care and Education is required to perform the role of Room Leader in an ECCE preschool room. The major award will prepare you to take responsibility for the work of others in leading and coordinating the provision of a quality early childhood care and education environment which promotes children's well-being, development and learning.

The Quality & Qualifications (QQI) is the national awarding body for further education and training in Ireland. Forus Training is registered with QQI to provide courses leading to QQI awards on the National Framework of Qualifications.

The purpose of this interesting course is to provide you with knowledge, skills and abilities required to create, implement and evaluate policies and procedures in an early learning and care setting. The information on this course will equip you with a knowledge of child protection legislation, child care regulations, social policy issues and diversity, equality and inclusion.

Throughout this programme, you will discover how to;
Evaluate a range of factors influencing and impacting on children's health and wellbeing to include family structure, community, culture, education, health, social services and social status

Evaluate child protection guidelines in relation to the protection of children and staff

Assess statutory regulations and national practice guidelines, which relate directly to and impact on early childhood care and education settings

Utilise a comprehensive range of specialised skills in meeting the needs of parents, children, colleagues and other stakeholders in an ECCE setting in the context of relevant legislation and national practice guidelines

Examine national and international social policy and how it impacts on the wellbeing of children and families

Devise a range of policies and procedures relevant to ECCE settings, ensuring adherence to legislation and national practice guidelines

Implement procedures for dealing with specific child protection issues

Evaluate the relevance of policies and procedures which safeguard children within ECCE settings

Critically reflect on how personal, cultural identity, attitudes and values can potentially impact on bias, discrimination and prejudice within ECCE settings

Identify personal learning needs and assist others in identifying learning goals within the context of the social, legal and health framework for ECCE settings.
