The aim of this module is to provide learners with the knowledge, skill and competence required, to use play as a therapeutic medium in a range of early years and special needs settings, with a primary focus on holistic development.

Entry Requirements
The minimum age is 17 Years. All learners must have a good standard of English.
As per QQI requirements, if you wish to use previously achieved modules to complete your Major Award, then they must have been achieved within the last five years. You must provide the College with copies of these certificates in order to go forward for certification once you have completed your programme of training with us.
Garda Vetting
Garda Vetting is a legal requirement under the National Vetting Bureau (Children and Vulnerable Persons) Acts 2012 to 2016 for the vetting of persons carrying out work with children or vulnerable persons.
Students must complete the Garda Vetting process before commencing work placement.
Students who have spent more than 6 months living outside of Ireland will need to provide a copy of their Police Clearance Certification for all international addresses that they have lived at, before starting placement.

In addition, the module will provide the learner with the relevant knowledge, skill and competence to assist children in the development of their emotional literacy and to develop the skills necessary to alleviate behaviour and mental health problems.
Course Objectives
To provide learners with a solid understanding of the principles underlying play therapy
To foster proficiency in the use of appropriate techniques utilising the play therapy tool kit
To enable learners to assess specific individual children’s needs and to organise the provision of Therapeutic play facilities for these children
To provide the learner with a comprehensive understanding and appreciation of ethical issues and considerations
To develop the practical skills necessary to plan, prepare and implement Therapeutic play sessions with individual children and/or groups
To develop the ability to design and implement a range of practical play techniques
To introduce the learner to the concept of the Therapeutic play continuum
To develop the knowledge and skills required to be an effective member of a multi-disciplinary team in a range
of early years and special needs settings
Continuous Assessment.
Applicants will also be required to complete 30 hours of work placement.
