This programme is currently funded by the Department of Education and Skills under a programme called the Back to Education Initiative.

Courses will be free to those who have a medical card, who left school before completing the leaving certificate or those who are in receipt of a payment from the Department of Social Protection (excluding Child Benefit).

If the above does not apply a learner may still complete the courses but will pay a subsidised fee. This fee is determined by a formula and varies depending on the module.

The QQI Level 5 Major Award in Early Childhood Care and Education consists of 120 credits. There are six modules each worth 15 credits (90 in total) and the remaining 30 credits are usually made up from learners completing optional two modules. There are six mandatory modules and the rest are taken from a specific a list of optional modules.

The purpose of this award is to equip the learner with the knowledge, skill and competence in Early Childhood Care and Education Practice to enable the learner to work under direction with children, their families and colleagues within early childhood care and education settings (ECCE).

Killucan Community Services Centre currently offers the QQI Level 5 Early Childhood Care and Education Programme on a part time basis.

Courses are provided evening times, from 7 – 10pm, and usually include two Saturdays per module. The programme is designed so that learners can complete modules at their own pace and to accommodate work and home needs.
